Okay, steel wool on a windshield is a horrible idea. That's what everybody with common sense knows without a doubt. But keep an open mind and you'll find that that is not exactly correct.
Using superfine steel wool is actually a well-known windshield-cleaning trick among car detailers, and it makes their lives a lot easier because it works.
Their time is valuable, because the faster they can get done polishing the dead bugs from your window, the faster they can get moving on to the next vehicle, and the more money they can make.

I use 000 steel wool all the time clean it with that then use a old sock apply rain x let it haze over coat it a 2nd time let it haze again and then wipe off with damp cloth does amazing job

Yeah it really works but only with 0000 steel wool, and it works better than rain-x in the rain.
I’m a commercial window cleaner! I have claimed such buildings like the Columbia tower and such other buildings and the greater Seattle area. People have been using steel wool to clean windows for Generations!

Clearly you don’t know what you’re talking about. #0000 will not scratch it. I even use it to clean my chrome wheels.

Did this everyday when I worked in a auto body shop. Easiest way to remove any overspray and works great for dried bugs too.

I clean windows and chrome with 0000 steel wool. Never seen a scratch yet
We dont get rust spots. After everything is done we take it to a car wash. So the vehicles look good inside and out

I’ve used steel wool in the past on glass to remove overspray n stuff. The combo of the wool and rain-X is doing it right for sure
We used it at the Lincoln dealer
Makes sense, I use OOOO steel wool to polish the poly and resin finishes on wood furniture I make and it polishes it to a high gloss with no scratches
0000 is the only steel to put on glass chrome things of such

Works great for water spots . Just make sure you vacuum up the the steel wool particles. If you don’t they will show up as rusty spots.
Yup and Use a Handgun to Clean out your ears!
Use it with Window cleaner not dry! And the only it will damage anything is if it is not glass. It will ruin the plastic side mirrors that are not glass.
I’ve done it for years, it super cleans glass and doesn’t/can’t scratch it.
Use 0000 steel wool if going to do this its the finest steel wool out there …js

I use 60 grit sandpaper to get stubborn bug splat off my hood and windshield
