You may look over a shoulder at the spouse, but she is preparing breakfast. The kids? Nah, they’re just waking up to go to school.
As usual it’s up to you – but what is the best way to get it done? Miserably, you recall last year when pouring a bucket of hot water only made things worse. There’s got to be a better way!

Buy gallon of deicer washer fluid, put in trigger bottle sprayer, and defrost all the windows. Worked for 2 years in TN. Brush off the loose, spray the rest

Actually you can use it for a few things such as getting sap off your car and in your washer fluid to help with cleaning windshield and if you Google it you can find a few more uses.
As far as it hurting the clear coat and paint I’ve never heard that before which not saying it won’t.
I’ve been using rubbing alcohol on and in my vehicles for about 6 years and haven’t had problems cause I keep them clean.
An old bed sheet or piece of plastic or something of that nature will help with the ice and snow on the windshield

I’ve used hot water plenty of times when I was running late for work. As long and you pour it slowly it works, never cracked a windshield, now that being said it was just around 32 degrees, wouldn’t do it if it was really cold
