You've worked hard to prepare the things you have, taking care of your land and amassing food and stores with careful planning and focus.
When SHTF, though, all of that work is at risk. Sure, that time is what you have been preparing for, but it is also then that others will attempt to seize all that you've gained through hard work and perseverance.
An easy way to solve this problem is just to arm up, right? Well that's all well and good, but nobody can keep a constant watch on every inch of their borders 24 hours a day.
Eventually, you will get tired and need to catch some shuteye. Even if you trade shifts with others in your survival party, it's in your best interest to have another way to monitor the perimeter.

False, it is completely possible to monitor your premises 24/7… I would not use this makeshift flare either.. maybe in the woods, but that is a huge Fire hazard in some areas during some parts of the year…

Except cameras are not always a deterrent. The sound of this trip alarm has potential to turn someone around from the surprise. Cameras do little to nothing to surprise anyone.
My well aimed shots to the face is the deterant. Explain how a few matchsticks are going to scare anyone? It’s an early warning device for whoever sets it.
Now flashbangs on a fishing line would be a deterant.
Maybe some frags or a few claymores, an improvised explosive device yeah. Not a few matchsticks.
