(Video) He Used Two Logs and a Rope. Just How Powerful This Trick Is? Unbelievable!

logs and rope flip flop winch

So, your vehicle is stuck in the mud. You probably should have been more careful, but what good does regret do at this point?! And the only supplies you have are two logs and a bit of rope. You must be out of luck.

Wrong. You may have heard of the Flip Flop Winch, which is a remarkably innovative device that can assist with removing large items that are stuck in your path.

Not to mention it can be used to get stuck vehicles out of the mud. Mors Kochanski, who is considered the “God Father of Bushcraft”, helped popularize this amazing design.

There is also evidence of this device being used by the British Army in World War II to get vehicles out of the trenches!

You’ve got to learn how to make this. Take a look at some photos followed by a video after the break!

Great idea and very helpful but geez if the fellow would shut up and just do it, it would prob only be about 5 minutes long rather than over 12!!

I’ll say what I want. If you can stand the truth then you don’t have to read it rather than cussing folks out about what you personally don’t like. I guess you think your comment was nothing but positive eh, fool?

That is neat! I could have used that a few times in my care free youthful days when I did not pay attention to the ground.

OH, and also, if you can’t take any criticism, don’t post things to my page and then cuss me for it.

Hint: Your wonderful government has put every one of their unclassified FMs on the internet. One of them happens to be “Vehicle Recovery.” Shows many more options than his two logs and a rope. Name a subject related to survival and I will just about bet that there is information in a FM (Field Manual) that covers it. Most of these self-proclaimed “experts” ain’t that bright.

I think that’s part of FM 21-305, Manual for the Wheeled Driver.

FM 20-22 is, if I remember, more extensive in just recovery operations. One of my sore points with a unit I was posted to was that no one had done Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services on the vehicle winches. And, yes, this applies even more to the winches and cables on civilian vehicles.

three rigs, all with 12,000lb winches and snatch blocks… start out planning to get stuck and you wont.

this is a simple Spanish windlass But the guy in the vid made several major mistakes and both were how he tied off the truck. first he used a TAUGHTLINE HITCH tied back around the standing rope to anchor it to the truck, this hitch has only 1/3 the strength of the rope itself weakening the whole thing. He should have used a Bowline knot which supplies the closest strength to the rope itself. Be advised there is NO knot that is as strong as the rope it is tied in. The Bowline is also known as the life saving knot because of its strength.
The next error could be fatal and Will cause the rope to let loose no matter what kind of knot used. NEVER tie a rope off to a flat plate such as a hole through a step bumper like he did, there are two 90 degree corners that will cut into the rope when tension is applied. ONLY tie a rope off to a rounded shaft or shackle; using a proper knot, a trailer ball would be preferable to a hole. but better yet a closed shackle such as used to connect two lengths of chain is preferred (the type that has a threaded connector to close it). Ive been offroading for over 40 years, and had to recover many vehicles for people who just did not watch what they were doing, the first step to do so is to know proper rigging, and I cringe when I see rope used as it is not strong as a good recovery strap. One wheel stuck? a shovel is faster than this, just sick one of those poles under the tire after you have cleared the loose soil away and drive up it like a ramp.

That was a dry drawn out video, it could have been compressed into a few minutes.

I liked the video a lot. Never know when this could help or potentially save your life if stuck in the winter! For all of these impatient a*s hats that can’t watch a damn video without bitching because it took to long, I hope you get stuck and freeze to death because you couldn’t watch a few minute video

jesus….the vehicle would rust before he would get it out. Guy has two speeds. Stop and reverse….
