The Best States to Head to When All Hell Breaks Loose

best-places-to-bug-out-in-the-united-states

Just about every survivalist has a “bug-out” plan, a strategy for what to do when a survival crisis hits and it becomes necessary to move to a safer locale (or even to “bug-in”).

Less considered is where to go beyond “the camp” or some other predesignated safe space.

Is your bug-out location optimal for long-term survival? What obstacles and threats exist that would affect your quality of life? Where is the optimal place to go?

Those types of questions typically do not get asked, particularly if you already have a bug-out location in mind or in hand.

But knowing where to go in a survival situation or its aftermath is as important as knowing how to get there.

To find out one writer's opinion on where the optimal places to head in a survival situation are, check out the next page.

I lived in Arizona I would disagree with that unless you happen to be up in the mountains… the soil was so bad you couldn’t even grow anything we even had Farmers tell us that with water rights being taken away they wouldn’t be able to grow like they used to… sure it has Sun all the time to grow stuff but water was a problem… we moved because we felt like it was not the place to be should anything ever go bad… not to mention if you had anything that was for prepping it would be stolen for sure

I had a paid for place out in the sticks of Idaho….
Came to the conclusion that anywhere north where heat is required is not good once the grid is gone.

Theres plenty of water in Northern Arizona, and honestly, that’s the first place I’d go. Rocky, difficult terrain, only the well prepared can get to. There are rivers, lakes, streams, etc, everywhere up north, and it snows frequently in the winter as well. Once you venture to the mountains, there’s nothing and noone.

It’s even better if you’re at least somewhat of an “outdoorsman” (I’d like to call myself somewhat of one) and know where the best, secret if you will, spots are.

However, if you’re not already in AZ, there’s better places I’m sure.

not up north and CA would get blitzes with fallout.
Northen CA is nice but where do you think the population of San Francisco would go?

I seriously doubt you will ever find the perfect bugout location. No matter where you go there will be issues. Natural disasters, disease, hunger, and dehydration are the top concerns for most. Now that’s strictly speaking of after shtf and you have arrived at your bugout location. That’s not counting our individual prepps for our local worries. Anything from mega quake or eruption, sunami ,civil war,HEMP,and the list goes on.

Most of these places that are pinned are sanctuary cities or really close to one. I am starting to think these survival sites are run by terrorists LMBO

Montana is the place to go. plenty of hunting, low population,Tidal wave proof,no quakes, and terrorism would have hard time getting that far into the states. and the people of the state stick together

Yeah only states that are predominately Muslim controlled you must think everybody is stupid as you huh ????

I’m gonna say here where I live I can stay hidden in the woods with awesome hunting and I’m still really close to the ocean with another option for lots of food and lots of fresh water plus the moutains and glaciers with natural springs are only about a hour drive

Anywhere along the Appalachia or along the Chesapeake Bay in my opinion would be ideal. Interesting selections though.

I for one not live in eastern nebraska. That’s where the majority of the people live. I would stick with west of North Platte if it was me.

It all depends h on how far you have to go to bug out. You will be limited on the fuel you have. Most vehicles have a 300 – 400 mile gas tank unless you installed a larger gas tank and how much extra fuel you can carry. Refueling stations will not be available. That armored survival vehicle you have will not get you very far. You may want to find a safe haven within you vehicle fuel range or move there now.

Too many northern states where you would have to deal with the cold.
Oklahoma or Arkansas is the best bet.

Yes I like this advice! No one should come to E. Tennessee, mountains are the worst place to bug out to. Go to California, west as it advises, especially if The Don is not your president.

I’m living daily in my bug out so I guess I’m bugging in, glad I can just stay put and carry on.

Kind of ruins the idea of going off the grid if everyone knows where to go and shows up there right?

I live in AZ and if we loose power, millions will die in 3 days. We have no water at all except what is pumped to us. I consider our state a living crisis waiting to happen

  23. Cindy Hinkley said:

I have a friend who lives in AZ, he lives on a couple acres with his own well.

  24. Jason Riggs said:

He needs a generator wired in to his sub panel to pump before all goes haywire. I had a well on my last property and it was 475 feet to the water column. We have water but it is all pump driven and pumps need power

The fifth largest economy in the world. California has had a boatload of continues rains for the last 6 months. Who do you think will get aid first? California. West coast and east coast. Everything comes into our ports from the world. The left has made sure that home grown food is on the rise. We can grow food 12 months long. Because we don’t freeze. We don’t need firewood. Cause it only gets down to 48 degrees at its worst! The only thing is there is a lot of population. So if you’re not ready, then shtf, or you have a community of friends and family, you will fail in any environment.
The key is to be ready no matter what. And I’ll take a good earthquake over a tornado any day of the week. Or the mass floods. Being a cal native there is a ton of resources here. Including he ability to make money. When shtf no one can fix anything. So if you’re handy. Guess who they call? Exactly. All those rich folk that can’t fix$#%&!@* I’ll bug in.

Don’t assume everyone in Cali is a dem. We have a boatload of republicans out here.

I live in Kansas and have several places and plans. My hometown is only 18k people. But I can disappear to several locations within 20 miles. 2 spring fed, 1 with a well and out buildings for shelter. Cannot see from any road. Plenty of game. If SHTF, we are ready.

7 years last month. But I am referring to a group of people rioting because the cops killed someone, or their sports teams either won or lost, or a big storm hit and people lost their s**t

The majority of people and I mean the vast majority well above 90% of the human population is very very weak domesticated and incredibly stupid and gullible the rest of us Lions will wait it out till all the sheeple kill themselves off and thin out. Reading many of these “survival post” and comments across the board just validates it.

A really really pooprly thought out list .
Also the concept of “Bugging Out” is stupid.
    An heres why .
    When SHTF .
A insane number of people with try to do it .
This will lead to traffic jams for miles .
If you are in thr city or inner suburbs you are most likely going to get trapped in the traffic jams .
You won’t and can’t find out about the “Event” quickly enough to escape.
So you have only two true options.
    A) Hunker down and bulid up your supplies , skills , fortifications & alliance’s.
    Or
Leave before the “Event” ever happens .

To each his own but I will rule out Washington, Oregon and California immediately. Next I would rule out all of New England, N. York, N. Jersey, the whole east coast and Florida. Fla. is a peninsula, need I say more? I would not hold much hope for Indiana, Ohio, the northern half of Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Middle America, from Canada down to Kansas and across the country east and west with the exceptions I mentioned work for me.. Think about overall moral attitudes, work ethics, and general likeability of the population and I think I could make it work. I am an old man with deep rooted principles and I like the HEARTLAND for the same reason. You do not have to know your neighbors but you should start out with an idea of what it is they stand for. Water and availability of food are to be considered but I rate very high ingrained principles when ever I can find them! To me it can be summed up in few words. MAKE A PLAN! MAKE AN ALTERNATE PLAN AND THEN prepare for WHAT MUST BE DONE TO SURVIVE! Having the finest plan in the world will in no way guarantee success, but having no plan will most likely doom you to failure!
