Overview:

According to Outside, here's the scoop on this new surprisingly affordable thermal imaging monocular:

The FLIR Scout TK is a consumer-grade thermal imaging monocular. It works by detecting relative heat. This is a vastly different approach from light-amplifying night vision. That means the FLIR isn’t just capable of seeing in the dark, but through smoke and fog, too.
The Scout TK displays relative heat differences, not absolute values: an object stands out when it’s a different temperature from its surroundings.
The handheld monocular recharges via USB and has a five-hour run time. In addition to displaying its images on a small screen, inside its eye cup, the Scout TK can also capture 1,000 images and shoot four hours of video.

Now to learn about all of the FLIR Scout TK‘s incredible survival uses, head to the next slide.

It turns out this clever handheld device has several safety uses that could help a person stay safe and get out of a bind post-collapse and during a current disaster. A few of these uses left me flabbergasted (and I'm not just saying that).

I wouldn’t mind having one of those. Even at 100m, it would still be handy.

For the people saying $600 bucks isn’t cheap. Rewind just a short 9 years ago and these things were the size of a cinder block with shitty resolution selling for around 10k. Yeah $600 is still expensive for the average consumer such as myself but compared to what they were that’s way more affordable. Hell last time I was at a gun show I seen a thermo selling for 70 bucks and it could attach to your iPhone.
