Pumice is generally silica, and if air born can inflict silica poisoning. Glass scratches at about 5 1/2, but any quartz in the mix scratches at 7 scratch scale.

Ive been a proffesional window cleaner since i was 11. This is my 12th year in my proffession. I use steel wool all the time. Gets rid of hard water, paint, bugs, ect. Just do not forget to get the window wet first!

Touch that fine steel wool with a 9 volt battery and you have the best fire starter ever!!!

Well, if you non believers knew anything about the hardness scale, steel rates about a 3-4, and glass at like a 7-7.5. Therefore steel can’t scratch glass. Simple science.

Use 0000 steel wool on chrome trim to remove film and bring back the shine. A spray of soapy water or glass cleaner is needed when using steel wool on glass or chrome. DO NOT use it on any painted or polished metal surface.

Bob Art glass is an amorphous solid. Just saw Daniel Sikes comment too.

Sand flows, therefore glass is a liquid? Wtf? Rocks will flow in an hourglass if the funnel is big enough, that doesn’t make concrete a liquid.

  10. Eric Tye said:

Not exactly true. Steel wool hasn’t been heat treated, therefore won’t scratch glass. A razor blade that has been hardened and sharpened will scratch the$#%&!@*out of a window, even a tempered piece of glass.

  11. Chris Coates said:

Well, I didn’t say hardened steel. Plus hardened steel by itself won’t scratch glass, it only will if it has a sharp edge. You can take a hardened hammer and rub it on your windows till the cows come home to no effect. Hardened tool steel is still softer than glass, but you can negate that by having a sharp cutting edge.

Steel wool and a battery can be a survival tool. It’s a good fire starter

Additionally cities use taxpayer dollars to build stadiums for the NFL rather than using a dime of that untaxed NFL money. Then the NFL moves in (maybe) and charges outrageous ticket prices for you to come in to this publicly funded monument to buy overpriced food and drink to watch over-payed idiots try to kill each other.

What horse$#%&!@*.. I worked at a detail shop for years, and we used many tricks. But for cleaning a window? We didn’t need much some soapy water, maybe industrial strength degreaser… a power washer, windex for a shine and a microfiber towel to finish off the whole car…
