Okay, steel wool on a windshield is a horrible idea. That's what everybody with common sense knows without a doubt. But keep an open mind and you'll find that that is not exactly correct.
Using superfine steel wool is actually a well-known windshield-cleaning trick among car detailers, and it makes their lives a lot easier because it works.
Their time is valuable, because the faster they can get done polishing the dead bugs from your window, the faster they can get moving on to the next vehicle, and the more money they can make.
So keeping that in mind, isn't your time valuable, too?
Learning how the pros do things is a great way to save time and to greatly reduce stress in your life. So how can you use steel wool to get your car windows to the ultimate clarity and shine?

Rob….
True?
It works fine and no scratches. Keep glass wet and use really light pressure. I’ve doing this for over 25 years.
No they dont. It’s a laminate. It won’t hurt the glass.
My 2011 Tundra has scratches on the tint on the out side from me scraping ice!

I have been doing this for years ! .000 or finer. It will remove water spots also.
I have used warm water to melt ice on windshields many times, it works like a charm and I have never had one crack so I have no idea why people think it will
What weight blinker fluid do you use?
The amount of people who trash talk this with out ever even trying it absolutely
Amazes me ! The stuff really does work well. Just like using just old plain newspaper. It’s a pain but they both work.
Works even better with window cleaner!
While i see ur point, think about how bad ur windshield looks after a short trip down the highway. IF u are mechanically knowledgeable enough to keep a vehicle on the road, say a year after shtf, and can somehow find enough gas(that hasnt gone bad) to continue trekking around fo supplies and scavaging, at some point u will jabe to clean that windshield for visibility. Theres trips i tale that are a couple hours away and after a few visibility is lacking horribly due to bugs. Water will be a premium and u wont be able to waste it cleaning ur car. Say ur bugging out to the woods and that vehicle sets a lot. It will be completely covered in black mildew and tar/sap. Again, rendering it useless in an event wherr say another prepper comes at u guns blazing n u jave to male a getaway. Ur vehicle will be an increadibly vital tool during shtf. Anothr way to look at it is, would u clean ur lens on ur scope of ur rifle?? It too will be just as vital. Take care of ur tools and thyll take care of u. And in this instamce thats exactly what a vehicle would be
Clean your rifle scope lens with steel wool. Please. I’d love to know how that goes for you. Scopes are coated optics, you will destroy your lens coatings using steel wool on them. As far as all that other stuff about what if this or if you do that, that’s all incredibly speculative and terribly unlikely. But, either way, the point I was making is, unless die hard survivor is helping you learn to survive, teaching you how to have sparkling clean automotive glass is a pretty useless skill, cause you’ll be dead.
Did it.
Same here!

I tested it on a winshield that needed to be replaced. Worked perfectly. Make sure you use 0000 with light pressure.
Use only ‘0000’ steel wool(new)!!
Or you can use Bon Ami cleanser. Either will give you a very clear and clean windshield.
Lol. 0000 steel wool will not damage glass.
I apply the rain X with 0000 steel wool and buff of film with a dry soft cloth.
no but most ppl will do it with the stuff in the garage and$#%&!@*the glass up then i have to go and replace to clean a windshield the best thing is windex or glass pluss and some elbow grease

Think I’ll just stick with the good old American detail supply, I ain’t buying no windshields if I f up lol
Never hurts to try a lil spot might work good hell i use mavels mystery oil on most dvery gun i clean it works awesome just tried it and it workd ladts forever too
Nothing brings the butt hurt like 0000 steel wool for cleaning glass.
You tube it. Smfh
He used sandpaper
I’m sorry you guys are right. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Forget I ever said anything.
Clinton Davis it was a joke. Duh.
Shaun Stick did u do this when detailing?
Yeah works great but you gotta use #000 steel wool
JaKe Elliott
Nice. I have been waiting for the rain to hit so I can do this on the clock to the work truck while we are slow
Dan Nicholson
Tony King you the man…lol
It has to be 0000 & dry
If you have tint on the outside of your windows, someone obviously didn’t do it right lol I’ve been in the auto collision I dusty for 35 years and have never seen tint on the outside of any Windows and yes we use 0000 steel wool all the time.
I tried this…works great. Hit the glass with Rainex right after. Just like new!
I use to use extra fine steel wool on the windows when I was doing New Homes.
If anyvof yall have scratched you glass….it is because you did not use the 0000 Extra Fine Steel Wool.
I have used it on Leaded Glass Windows when the painters sprayed too much Stain or Paint all over them.
It CAN crack glass with VERY hot water but is not guaranteed. Usually when that happens there is already a hairline crack or a rock ding or other weak point.
Hard to srive if hou can’t see. Still a stretch, but I suppose it is technically valid…
