When Hollywood celebrities are telling you that you need to be prepared for a survival situation, at the least you should wonder why they want you to be ready.

I started thinking about preparation and survival during and in the aftermath of a major event after an ice-storm slammed New England a few years ago.

The power was out for 10 days and while mobility was possible after the first couple of days, it became painfully obvious that had the storm been worse, I would have been thoroughly unprepared.

Having a kit like this is paramount to making sure you can make it through the first few days and not just because a celebrity says so.
