You Just Came Across a Mountain Lion in the Wild. Now Pay Attention to What You Should Never Do…

mountain lion

You've undoubtedly read about mountain lions. They are after all one of the most feared predators in the United States, and most of this fear is caused by misunderstanding these wild creatures. Though, they certainly are dangerous enough that you should respect them.

The chances of you coming across a mountain lion are slim to none since they tend to be reclusive creatures that are fearful of humans. They rarely attack humans but never say never.

Even though being attacked by a mountain lion is rare, attacks could have been prevented by learning ahead of time what you should and should not do. Follow these rules and you'll have a better chance of surviving if you were ever to come across one of these predatory animals.

Find out what you should and more importantly shouldn't do should you ever encounter a mountain lion on the next page.

Very rarely seen because of their reclusiveness. They are here in Maine too.

Be a man and make it your pet. If it attacks be a bigger man and punch it in the eye.

Came face to face with one on Mt Laguna in San Diego many years ago. Fortunately for me, it was eating a small baby dear and just growled at me…. I backed away slowly and once I was out of its line of sight I booked it

Just carry a portable box. Cats of any size can’t resist a box. Just saying

When I went camping in the wild I carry a 12 gauge with buck shot and slugs. A slug shell will ruin anything’s day

And the number 1 most important thing is to never ever try to take away the freshly killed Deer that you were tracking!!!

I don’t have a frisbee for wolves…a laser pointer or ball of yarn for mountain lions (although I have a bottle of vodka for ‘Cougars’ ) not bear mace or a .44 mag for bears….No. I have a boombox loaded with a Justin beeber cd. That repels any and all predatory animals. It also kills me in the process though.

Im gonna fight it And eat it. That’s why I always carry three forms of weapons when hiking or pep training. Ranged, medium range and close quarters. Ranged is my 10 mm, medium range is my axe and close quarters is my machete.

I’ve had them sit and just watch me. I had 38 acres of woods on the mountain up over a lake. They always told me there was no mountain lions out here, even though cattle and horses were being killed, and verified by the vet as a big cat. But my scent is all over those woods from stone stacking, and theres a spring flows thru the middle. Deer will graze close to me, watching, even being 20 ft away. Well, so will mountain lions. First few times, it’s chilling, but after a while. I’d just stop what I was doing, go to my truck….never running. What would they do to someone who’s scent is not known? I don’t know. I sold that land off since, but own land just to the other side still. I’ve never seen one since, and now there’s 3 homes built or more on that 51 acres. I hear gun shots a lot down in there. It is against the law to shoot a mountain lion here.

I carry a gun – or two – but, i live way out in the Rockies and we do have mountain lions, wolves and bears. I also don’t carry a stupid bell.

And whatever you do, don’t try to take a selfie to prove to your friends that you survived an attack! Oh, and two words: “carry concealed!”
