You Just Encountered a Mountain Lion. Here’s What You Should NEVER Do…

To prevent having issues with a mountain lion in the first place, it's wise to hike in a group. If you'd rather hike solo consider having something on your backpack that makes noise, such as a bell. If you plan on hiking with your pooch in an area that has mountain lions, you might want to keep her at home. It turns out our furry friends can invite cougar attacks.

Preventing Problems with Mountain Lions
Hike with a friend. Attacks are less likely in a group.
Don't let small children wander off the trail unattended. Keep kids in the middle or front of your group to prevent a cougar ambush from the rear.
Dogs can attract or invite cougar attacks. Leave them at home.

    Not harmless…when I lived in Colorado, many young kids were killed hiking with their parents…they all ran ahead…so sad..
