Is the USA headed towards a new “civil war?” Are we there already?
That depends on your definition of “war.” If a war means two political jabbering heads hurling pejoratives at each other on TV, then yes, we are at war.
If political battles waged at the ballot box, where each election is “the most important ever” is war, then we probably are at war.
If war is a cultural struggle, then we have been in a Civil War for decades. But none of that includes the cruelty and carnage of the original US Civil War.
So are we in a new type of Civil War?
Or is it an over-used phrase employed by those with no perspective of the horrors of Shiloh, Antietam or Gettysburg?
Is it an epic battle for right or left supremacy, or an indicator of a lack of a sense of history or self-awareness?

I’m just going to say that anyone who tries to round people up is the enemy. I don’t give a damn which ideology it is. Once they cross the historic totalitarian line that seeks to coerce/suppress all other ideologies, they’re inhumane enemies to me and the principles that I grew up appreciating in this country. Unfortunately, Chuck, it is “our” business. If you voted for someone whose anti-freedom agenda is well-known, then you are placing your own agenda over the freedom of others, to include the possibility of using the mechanism of the state to punish or kill them. That makes you an enemy, regardless of your intentions; because by your own admission, your progressive ideals supersede the natural rights and personal autonomy of your own countrymen in your mind. And that means those who do not wish for your worldview to dominate would be fools not to oppose you by any means necessary.
If there is another civil war, it will be fought nothing like the last one. It will be an unconventional war, with no frontlines. Tactics will be very similar to those used by terrorists, with the govt coming down on both sides, with one huge exception. The war would be won by gaining the support of the general population, it can’t be won without it, so very strict rules of engagement would have to be followed by the “good guys” in order to prevent civilian casualties. Logistics would be a nightmare. How would you set up command and control nationwide? You cant just advertise publicly “militia meeting at Franks place tonight”. How do you handle your wounded and dead? How do you create secure communication with the NSA able to monitor every thread of data on the planet? There are millions of veterans in this country, mostly conservative, who would be willing to fight, but how do you unite them and command them?
I’m not saying it couldn’t happen, but an actual full scale campaign would be extremely hard to manage by either side. It would be more likely to be fought by a very small number of highly trained individuals capable of hit and run tactics, with the abiltiy to disappear afterwards. This could also trigger marshal law as well, with govt troops hunting soldiers from both sides and innocent people being hurt in the process. It would be pure Hell in this country if it happens, so I hope and pray that it doesn’t come to that.
