Cost-effective antiseptics are few and far between. Some are so outlandishly expensive that they are hardly worth the cost, unless of course you are dying of a debilitating bacterial infection, in which case they probably won't do you much good anyways.

Most antiseptics are applied to prevent infection, not cure it, so, in general, you'd want to spend as little as possible if the antiseptic wasn't necessary in the first place. One way you can do this is to manufacture your own.

Sugar has been used for generations as an effective antiseptic when applied directly to wounds. Iodine is also an incredibly potent antiseptic.

Put them together and you've got sugardine, a home remedy used widely by farmers on their livestock when they get injured.
