
When we go out into the wilderness, taking our matches or flints, making sure we have tinder, then find ourselves looking around for wood to make a wonderful fire, we don’t often think about weather conditions as long as it does not rain.
Still, if the air is moist we know that fire won’t last as long, no matter how hard we try to keep it going, but what can we do about it?
If only there were something out there that would make certain that fire would stay put long enough to keep our hands warm and maybe even make the water pot boil for our delicious dandelion tea!
Leave it to the Fat Guys in the Woods to come up with such a clever suggestion that the rest of us, we who think we know what we are doing, find ourselves completely in awe of the simple but perfectly ingenious idea that is utterly gold to a survivalist!

There are other ways to light a fire in bad weather. I would not use my antibiotic ointment unless it was an extreme emergency.
First you should know the difference between a fire starter and a fire fuel. If it can’t cause a spark or flame it’s not a fire starter !
Have either use pill bottles or Altoids tins stuffed with cotton balls dipped in Vaseline in our BOB’s

Buy a tube of petroleum jelly at the dollar store, it burns just as well as the expensive stuff.
