Now and then, we get offered a rare glimpse into the bug out lives of others. The best way to do this is to see how they have planned and arranged their bug out homes.
Of course, not all those who bug out are doing so for the sake of end of the world plans. Many are doing so simply because they're fed up with the world and are choosing to live as hermits. There are also many who are doing so because they have no other choice.
Of the reasons listed above, this hermit likely lived apart from the rest of the world out of necessity.
Perhaps he was beaten down by life, or he was hiding from something; regardless, he chose to live apart and used what most people would consider to be trash in order to support his lifestyle.

If that guy thinks a hermit built that chimney? He’s deluded. Chances are this was an old house that someone had to leave by eminent domain when they brought the highway through. The hermit probably utilized the chimney to make his little home there long after the older house had either been bulldozed or fell.
