They say the island is about the size of Manhattan but, as our hostess reminds us New York was never like this! Just how many people move there and decide to stay will surprise you. Go watch!

We loved “The Earth Ship” with all of its recycled and natural materials. While it’s not the ultimate back to nature house it is quite rustic while still living a survivalists dream!

We also like the “entertainment” around the island. There is a pub, a café and a “free store”, which we find an especially clever and generous idea. One man’s discard may be another’s treasure!

Can this existence be continued for a lifetime? According to Al, who has been there over thirty years, it can work. Obviously, you need to be motivated and made of resilient stuff!
