(Video) Living in the Artic Takes Serious Skills. Watch How a Survivalist Constructs an Arctic Forest Shelter With a Bed!

winter bed

Will you be able stay warm through the night in your winter survival situation? Our hope is that you will not only be warm but be comfortable, as well. That's why you should watch the video below.

The man makes an excellent point with laying the sticks lengthwise, rather than across. Not only will it require that you cut less, it will also flex and be a more comfortable surface to sleep on. It's like the difference between sleeping on a floor and sleeping on a futon. Sure, neither is particularly comfortable, but chances are you'll choose the futon every time.

Also, not only does this setup lift you off the ground, but it raises you high enough so that heat from your fire, which would be built directly in front of the shelter, will be able to flow beneath the bed to keep you warm. It's a great setup, and one you should try the next time you try out a winter survival scenario.

Been there done that; spend a year (benefits of Uncle Sam) in Fort Yukon AK. Twenty clicks north of the arctic circle, and 105 clicks west of Canada in 1971…

I haven’t lived like that in the Arctic but I did work in Prudhoe Bay Ak. For 8 years. And worked in negative 40 to negative 50 degrees, been caught in major snow storms that blowing snow plugged up and froze in the air filter killing the engine and been stuck for hours freezing to death waiting for rescue. Good times, lol
