One of the biggest concerns with winter survival is, of course, staying warm. This can be combated with plenty of layers of clothing, a hot fire, and keeping warm foods and fluids going into our system. These are the methods that most people are well aware of.

The biggest danger to sleeping during winter survival is the same. Staying warm. There is the fear that we will fall asleep and not wake up again. This is because the easiest way to lose body heat is on the ground.

No matter what time of year it is, the ground is always colder than the air around it. This can be great news in the summer, but in the winter can be a death sentence.

Naturally, you want to combat this by elevating yourself off the ground. But do you know the most efficient and probably the most comfortable way to do so?

Check out the video on the next page to find out.

Been there done that; spend a year (benefits of Uncle Sam) in Fort Yukon AK. Twenty clicks north of the arctic circle, and 105 clicks west of Canada in 1971…

I haven’t lived like that in the Arctic but I did work in Prudhoe Bay Ak. For 8 years. And worked in negative 40 to negative 50 degrees, been caught in major snow storms that blowing snow plugged up and froze in the air filter killing the engine and been stuck for hours freezing to death waiting for rescue. Good times, lol
