[VIDEO] Learn To Throw A Knife Without Spin

One skill that is easily learned and can be invaluable in a survival situation is the ability to throw a knife straight, on target and without spin.

While this skill is not something you will use often, it can be critical in hunting and catching game and self-protection.

The key to learning how to throw a knife accurately with no spin is your technique, adapting that technique when you need to do so and of course lots of practice.

One method of throwing a knife is called the Thorn Style of Throwing. This method uses your wrist and a unique grip to throw a knife of virtually any size accurately, with no spin and on target.

Watch the video on the next page and we'll show you how to learn this critical survival skill.

I think I started out by tying two bandannas to the back end of one of my heavier folding knives that I wasn’t too fond of.

I don’t have a true “throwing” knife. I’ll have to see if I can do this with my camp knives.

Here is why knife throwing isn’t practical:

    1. Unless the knife is a throwing knife, you are putting it to strenuous and unnecessary abuse. Don’t be shocked if it breaks.

    2. You are ‘throwing away’ your most important tool. Yeah, you can retrieve it, but anyone who has been in the woods can tell you how hard it is to find something you drop.

I belong in the other camp….throwing a weapon during situation only disarms you…unless you have a bandolier of them.

Don’t need a bandolier, just follow one simple rule. One is none, two is one, three because you can. You are not without an edge weapon and still have throwing option.

I haven’t watched the video, but I throw without spin, under handed..any knife works, because there is no spin. So the weight does not matter. It’s a straightforward underhand throw. Lots of velocity too!

You can cheat by fastening a couple of bandannas to the back end of a heavy blade knife you don’t like too much and loose that sucker like a lawn dart.
That said Someone can chuck it back at you as well. 😉
