(VIDEO) How to Build a Smokehouse That Could Come in Handy for Survival

If you love the idea of living off the land, or if you have already made the switch to a homestead lifestyle, one thing that won't go amiss on your property is a well-built smokehouse.

A smokehouse will enable you to preserve meats and fish for long-term storage, and will add some good flavor to these foods in the process. While you could just as easily wrap and store your meats in the freezer, that won't work very well when the power goes out and you now have 300 pounds of animal flesh rotting away, useless.

When you smoke meat, you remove most of the moisture and the harmful bacteria, meaning you can then store it safely outside the freezer or the fridge. This is a method which has been relied upon for thousands of years.

On the next page, you can learn how to make one of these smokehouses for yourself.

I like the idea but this design is sloppy at best. Also, why is the fire pit so far away from the smokehouse? Can’t that distance be shortened to allow more of the heat to enter the smokehouse itself? I’d love to have one myself but I’d research better designs first
