A survival situation can be made much easier if you have the skills to craft tools for whatever situation you're in. In the case of hunting, being able to close the gap between you and your game is going to be a major advantage.

Apart from hunting directly, you can also craft several crossbows like this to set up along game trails and connect to tripwires. Be careful not to walk into your traps, though, as this is a very dangerous tripwire to set up.
