(Video) Family Discovers a 1960’s Fallout Shelter in Their Backyard

Bunker-Shelter

The previous owner of the shelter was a Dr. Frank Pansch. He built the shelter in the early 1960s when Americans were living under the constant threat of nuclear war. This bunker is like a small time capsule!

During this time shelters were meant to protect families from the fallout created by atomic blasts. A fear we still hold today, as well as EMPs, water contamination, and other high-tech ways of getting a terrorist point across.

The shelter itself is located 200 miles from Chicago and 100 miles from Milwaukee, the two nearby cities targeted by the Soviet Union at the time it was built.

Wisely, the family donated all the items to the Neenah Historical Society but personally, before they were sent off, we’d love to have seen all of the items that were stacked away. We imagine it would make for a terrific history lesson!
