If you are facing a survival situation, catching a fish can be the game changer in terms of getting your hands much needed protein.

Hunting, killing and dressing game takes a lot of time and energy and depending on where you are, might not be available; fish, however, are available just about anywhere and for the short-term, are safe to eat, particularly if cooked correctly.

If you are separated from your gear, however, catching  fish can be problematic; without your gear, you are left to your own devices.

In that type of situation, you need to employ every trick and method at your disposal, which means setting fish traps, making primitive spears for spearfishing and using primitive hooks fashioned from your surroundings.
