While you may think it's necessary to carry a knife at all times with your rope (you should carry a knife for a myriad of reasons), having a knife on hand to cut your rope really isn't necessary at all. As it turns out, all you need is the rope itself.

Usually, friction and cordage don't get along really well. You can see why in the video; a bit of friction and the rope separates like a knife through… rope. This hack is a great trick if you're not alone in your survival situation and your partner is using the one knife you have between you.

If your knife needs sharpening, this is a much safer alternative because if you slip here, you won't have to worry about a blade slicing you. It's also a great trick if you just don't have your tools on you at the time, and you want to get the project done now. Personally, I can't wait to try this out on my next outing.
