If you find yourself in a situation where you need to cut rope down for use, whether it's to tie things down in the bed of your truck, to secure a tarp on a family picnic or to lash together a shelter in dire circumstances, most people would agree that you'll need to have a cutting tool to separate the rope into useable lengths.

Whether it's a knife or a pair of rugged scissors, having an implement to cut the rope is crucial when you plan actually to use that rope.

As it turns out, a knife actually isn't necessary at all for cutting rope, nor is any other cutting implement. You don't need a sharp stone, a jagged piece of metal or bone or even a flame to burn through the rope and cut it down. All you need is the rope itself.
