Frequently in the news you'll hear a story about someone who was lost in the woods for several days before they were found by emergency relief personnel or a search party. In those cases, the person missing informed someone where they were going beforehand (presumably), and when they didn't call/show up/make contact, etc., their source of contact notified the authorities so a search could be performed. Lesson to learn here? ALWAYS tell someone where you are going. Try not to be too general either. In the event you need to be found, it will serve your needs best if you're as specific as possible.
