With all the preparation you've been doing, you're probably in good shape (or getting there at least) with your supply stash. Sure it's important to have food with a long shelf life and yes, it's always important to have a back up of certain items that you feel will get used the fastest. But ultimately, if SHTF, no one would know how long it would take for things to regain order and control. With a natural disaster, like an earthquake, you and your family could be out of commission for a week depending on the severity level. But let's think about hurricane Katrina for a minute. Almost 80% of New Orleans was under water (some areas were 20 ft deep!) and it impacted 90k square miles of Louisiana. It's devastating to think about, but people in that situation were truly experiencing a SHTF situation.
