When you think of the things you need in a post-SHTF world, very often the first thing you'll think of is a gun. Or rather, an array of guns. You may be at a loss to decide what gun will be the best for your circumstances. For that reason, we've provided the list below.

Sig Sauer P226
The 9mm Sig Sauer pistol holds 15 rounds. It’s also available in .40 and .357 caliber ammo.
Mossberg 590 Mariner
This 12 gauge has a 20-inch stainless steel barrel and is excellent for harsh environments.
Glock 36
The Glock 36 is exceptional for concealment. With a magazine of six rounds, it weighs about 27 ounces.
Bushmaster AR-15
The Bushmaster AR-15 is extremely popular and utilizes 5.56 mm and .223 caliber rounds.
Ruger 10/22
With survival ammo supplies will be limited. It’s fairly common knowledge that the most abundant stocked round is the .22.
Winchester Super X Pump Defender
Holding one in the chamber and five in the tube, the Super X can be outfitted with a number of accessories.
Smith & Wesson .40 M&P
S&W .40 M&P is polymer framed and holds 15 rounds. This best survival handgun is relatively compact.
Henry Arms AR-7 Survival Rifle
This rifle easily fits into a bug out bag or backpack. Why? Because it can be taken apart with the parts stored in the butt stock.
Ruger RedHawk
A powerhouse best left to those with experience in large sidearms. All the RedHawk models hold six rounds and will weigh between 46 and 54 ounces.
Remington 870 Series
There are over two dozen shotgun models to choose from in the Remington 870 line. With that amount of variety, you’ll be able to fit any tactical or hunting situation.

You may notice that there are a variety of weapons, from small and lightweight handguns to a large hunting revolver, and then up to rifles and shotguns.

For shotguns, most experts agree that your best bet is anything in a 12-gauge, as that will give you the widest range of prey that you can take down.

For your bug out bag, the survival rifle or a handgun are your best bets.

Many survivalists also swear by the AR-15 for its unquestionable reliability and for how customizable it is to suit all of your weapons needs.

I think you guys overlook single action revolvers lever action rifles they are time tested and they are harder than hell to break and in some cases you can shoot them faster than other guns

Mosin Nagants. Cheap enough to own a bunch in order to barter a few and ugly enough it won’t break your heart to do so. Ammo is cheap so you can stock a bunch. Reesonably accurate and does not lack for power. All the other weapons lusted are good to go. Just wanted to add the Nagant to the discussion.

I really do not agree with this list . They said bushmaster ar 15 . Well what makes it better nothing and in most cases it’s a bottom line . And not sure about the glock 36 . What caliber is that amd I thought the 42 and 43 were the 2 that only held 6. There list is bogus. I believe someone got a little kick back from the manufacturer for being so specific
