This has nothing to do with the abolishment of slavery but perceptions; an unflinching interpretation – you are wrong and I am right – which brings about the potential for violence and country wide upheaval!
More and more, the United States is becoming divided in loyalty and political ideals. It’s no longer a country of: “While I respect your opinion I do not agree with it.” It is more of a: “I am right and will destroy, verbally or physically, anyone who says anything different!”
When you think about it, wasn't that the mindset in April of 1861?

A civil war in the US would take decades most likely and probably distract us from obligations over seas. We would survive it but it would still cripple us as a world power.
And I wouldn’t put it past the left to join forces with foreign powers or terrorist groups.
Even the help that may come to aid the right may back stab us and occupy parts of our country way after the war ends.
It would be chaos and a very unpredictable outcome.
Before a civil war we would have to make sure our enemies over seas are taken care of or rebuilding afterwards will be near impossible.
