Lose Your Key? Why Pressing Your Key Against a Piece of Tape Will Save You

making a spare key

With a piece of tape and a lighter, and a fairly rigid piece of metal, you can fashion your own spare key that will get you into your lock or maybe even start your car. So how can you apply this miracle of life hacks to your own situation? Check out the video below and find out.

I know what you're thinking: “But if I have the key so I can make this copy, I can just use that to get into the house,” or “what good is this trick going to do me if I don't have the original key?” You'd be right. Without foresight, this is a useless hack.

However, what if you made some imprints of different keys you might need and keep those imprints in your wallet or bug out bag? Now it's not so dumb. Then, whenever you forget or even lose your key, you can still get into your home or vehicle.

It's also important to remember that you'll need a rigid piece of metal and a good multitool. The multitool should be carried at all times regardless, and if you just don't forget to keep your recycling bin outside, this may just be a great hack in the future.

If you’re going to lose a key, you’re going to lose a little piece of tape too sorry. Most people make a whole whopping spare key that works in the lock and everything!
