Knife Laws by State Preppers Should be Aware Of

a bunch of knives

If you are a hunter for fisherman (or woman,) or a survivalist, chances are you have your local, state and federal firearms regulations and rights memorized.

Less known are the regulations and the rights we possess as they pertain to owning, carrying and using knives.

It sounds crazy, but just about every state has laws that dictate the type of knife you can buy, own, carry and how you can use it.

It is a product of an over-reaction to crime back in the '70's and 80's in most cases and like most political and government over-reactions, many laws have been repealed, modified or amended, which has, predictably, created a patchwork of rules that vary from state to state.

That is why you must know the knife laws that pertain to your state and any state that you visit; on the next page, we cover many of the knife laws that will affect you.

Indiana has no laws on what can be concealed or openly carried with knives but throwing stars and ballistic knives are illegal

Yea probably because other than those 2 things there are no other laws prohibiting or restricting knives

Doesn’t seem to cover if there is a difference with concealed carry permit. Important to know what might be your consequences when going out prepared …when being ready it also means ready to defend your self in court compliance to authority when necessary not to become the criminal your defending against….unless SHTF then surviving rules.

Honestly if you are a preper , you really are not concerned with what is legal or not . More so with what do you need to survive ??

Nothing on Indiana? Last I checked it was: Only knives allowed to be carried/used for protection were 3.5 inch or less, folding blades only.

The legality of a tool is not a concern of mine during a time in which I need it.

As for Washington state, I thought it was not only illegal to carry a knife in the city of Seattle; but also per Seattle city ordinance any confiscated knifes must be destroyed.

    Can anyone clarify this?

Massachusetts is so confusing, many companies won’t even ship knives here at all.. even though i could walk into Walmart and buy them. I collect and build my own, and i’m quite positive even the police are so confused they exercise their individual judgement on “dangerousness”.

Knife laws lol. You mean “carry whatever the **** you have a right to carry” law. These laws are to enslave humanity into complete subservient domestication. I’ll carry a sword if it means I have to prove a point. Same thing with guns.

Ohio’s not on the list because we have no restriction except on ballistic knives (that launch blades similar to a gun) The law requires a ccw for a concealed weapon of any sort, but does not specifically state knives, so the only way you can get busted for a knife is if you openly admit its a deadly weapon. If you claim its a tool used for work purposes and say its not for defense you are OK. Theres gray area with a switchblade, but a button or assisted release is perfectly legal so long as it swings outward and does not slide the blade up and down the hilt.

Just recently did ccw training an opposed to what this says my instructor said in Missouri we can carry any kind of switchblade under 4″
