It’s Possible to Survive an EMP With These 10 Powerful Powerless Tools!

shovel in soil

If you ask around, particularly to those who have never prepped a day in their lives, many do not have a clue what an EMP is. So, the fact that an electromagnetic pulse can wipe out anything from radios to cars to helicopters and all computer equipment stuns those not in the know.

As a matter of fact, they will probably even look at you as if you are daft for believing such a thing. “That can’t really happen, can it?” they may ask.

This is no “fake news” and an EMP can happen. It is up to us as preppers to know what we need should an event happen and prepare our family and friends for such an eventuality. If your friends and neighbors do not want to participate then it is their loss. When an EMP hits they will be quite literally in the dark.

On the next page, we will discuss the things you and yours will need to survive an EMP. Because yes, you can get through it but not if you do not know what to expect. Go take a look!

Clearing the air on emp. An emp is a by-product of a nuclear detonation but not near the surface of the earth. Optimal detonation altitude is 250-300 miles above the earth. There would be no nuclear fallout.. no radiation would reach the surfaces of the earth.. A nuclear weapon detonated below the ionosphere(40 miles above earth) would not generate an emp. If the weapon is used as a traditional nuke there is no EMP generated however then radiation is an issue.. if it is detonated as an emp, devices plugged in are most susceptible to damage. Smaller electronics not plugged in can be damaged but the wavelength that does that damage can’t travel very far. The device would need to be detonated directly over head. It’s called the E1 pulse and it is weakened by humidity in the atmosphere. The main catastrophe from EMP will be the primary electrical grid which would be destroyed from the E3 pulse. Most electronics that are not connected to the grid should survive. Including the electronics in your vehicle. Faraday cages are just a fail safe measure. But the odds are, they won’t be necessary. Now, that being said, if you are still convinced that you need a Faraday cage.. get a real one, EMP travels as RF, not like conventional electricity. So all these folks that put cardboard liner in a metal trash can will be sorely disappointed if they are in a position that the EMP does reach their equipment. Your Faraday cage should not only be capable of redirecting current, but it should also keep all RF frequencies out.. anyways here’s a good article on the facts of EMP. I didn’t learn this stuff from a movie or book, my information is based on the EMP Commission’s official government report on the study of EMP. Now before anyone starts to argue with me, let me clarify.. I know nuclear detonation is not the only source of EMP. BUT, solar flare does not emit an E1 effect, so under solar flare your portables and vehicles are still safe. Also I know about the Boeing technology, and it is a weapon that is directed at specific targets, so the only man made source of wide spread EMP capability is from nuclear detonation.

Look, I’m not Mr. Fix It by a long shot but who the$#%&!@*doesn’t have those things?

Item 11: Clothing. You need clothes even when your electric heater shuts off.

Item 12: Silverware. How else do you plan to eat after your robot butler shuts down?

Item 13: Masturbation, because it was the suggested word on my phone and after the EMP my phone will be out of suggestions

Item 14: A wooden plank. It has so many uses, from perfecting push-ups, to securing a door, to building a bug out raft!

Item 15: A dradle! You never know when you might want convert to Judism in the post EMP world! Also, being Jewish extends the life of your light sources eightfold!

Wouldn’t the motherboard be fried therefore batteries wouldn’t work either ways

Hacksaws with an 18 or 32 teeth per inch blade are mostly used for cutting metal, but you can use them on wood.

Its probably a silly question if you have your car battery out of the car would that still burn out the cars electronic system its a newer car you know like your driving a computer.

  6. Steele Smith said:

It depends on your proximity to the detonation point. Having the battery in or out of your car will most likely not make a difference either way.

Actually, most will not survive a true EMP… tools or no tools….

  8. William Smith said:

Agree 100% with you John. To many people with the lack of knowledge and skills to take care of them selves.

I read the commission a while back if Im not mistaken. I believe they said they tested a high number of vehicles and only something like two vehicles completely shut off and couldn’t be restarted. The rest were basically just fine. Some shut off but started right back up. The ones that didn’t shut off were fine with the exception of a handful having dash light problems.

Believe it or not, the common spade-head shovel is actually resistant to EMPs.

  11. Micky Davidson said:

The problem with vehicles still running is there be no available gas so they might as well shut down.

What is this story just a nice little warm-up to get us all psychologically prepared for the EMP attack that the military is going to perpetrate on the American people and then blame on Iran or North Korea?

  13. John T Pedigo said:

We already know that Isis is not capable in any way of creating a successful EMP attack from high altitude we know this it is not possible for them to do it?
We also know that North Korea really doesn’t have the capability to effectively deliver an DMP type of weapon over a major u.s. city either. They don’t have submarines line and they certainly don’t have missiles that can go much farther than Japan. The idea of Iran delivering a nuclear device especially at a high altitude over one of our cities is pretty much impossible period but the American people will believe anything they are told by the news. We are being warned that it is going to happen

Instrad of that nomal shovel get a rissian spetsnats shovel or united cutlerys copy the m48 with saw teeth.

  15. Gassner G Joe said:

Sorry but, even a microwave oven with the door taken off will produce an emp.

  16. Anonymous said:

No,but a nuclear weapon detonated 40 miles above the earth will create carnage and mass deaths, America is getting soft, when we as a country let north Korea build and test long range missiles without repercussions, it shows the world were we stand! 45 years ago this issue would of been dealt with swift and permentally! But other countries see what were busy doing, tearing down long standing monuments ,and believing all is fine in America!

Micky Davidson, the fuel will still be there. You’ll just have to find another way to get it, other than swiping you’re credit card.

  18. Josey Wales said:

North Korea absolutely has the capability, knowledge, and desire to deliver an EMP type weapon.

not above our cities with an ICBM. we have plenty of defense against that.

    AK-47, AR-15, .45ACP×2 and a$#%&!@*ton of ammo. That’s how I’ll easily survive

  22. Dave Clukey said:

    No you’ll need these
    Weapons
    Ammo
    Knife
    Multi tool
    Water purification
    Antibiotics
    Salt
    Firestarter
A shovel will help, but you can dig my well and plant and tend to my garden, prepare my food and dig in defenses since you didn’t pack any weapons…good luck shovel guy….hahahahhhaah

Not many people keep cash nowadays. Having a running vehicle with a full tank of gas will make you a huge target.

  24. Scott Sullivan said:

For this reason the threat of an emp attack is why I wrap my tools in tinfoil to protect them.
