Hunting Squirrel in a Survival Situation

Squirrels would not be on most diners preferred list, but in a survival situation, they could be the easiest to find and secure.

They reside just about everywhere and are very much creatures of habit, making them easier to hunt.

Ideally, none of us has to whip up a batch of squirrel stew unless it is an old family tradition.

In a pinch, however, they are one of the most plentiful animals on the planet and because of their habits, some of the easiest to hunt; you could even live trap them if you had to do so.

What small game techniques would you use in a survival situation? Tell us about them below.

If there are squirrels available keep a crock pot going to throw a couple in the stew.

During the 80’s as a young married couple, my wife became the world’s most creative squirrel chef. When the construction trades fizzeled and we were left with almost no income, small game was our source of meat.

Around these parts, we don’t call squirrel hunting a WSHTF scenario… we call it the weekend. Here, it isn’t considered a survival skill…it is something we start doing as young children and what many consider a leisure activity.
