The key to survival is being able to take whatever is at hand and use it for whatever you need to make it through whatever you are facing.

That is a lot of “whatever,” for sure, but you get the point; innovation and improvisation are critical to you making it out in one piece, whether you are facing a weather event, man-made disaster or end up lost in the woods (and everything in between).

One often overlooked survival “multi-tool” is a cell phone.

Ideally, you can use your phone to summon help or at least help pinpoint your position, but if that fails, you still have a pretty useful piece of equipment at your disposal if you know what to do and how to use it.
