How to Prepare for the Unknown, Including Unprepared People

prepared for SHTF

Preparing yourself for when SHTF is all well and good, but what will you do when there is an army of hungry people wandering the streets and forests trying to find the supplies they should have been stocking up on when times were good. These are the unprepared, and you need to prepare for them.

How To Prepare For The Unprepared
Even if supply-chain infrastructure is only partially disrupted, the run on food and/or the lack of their normal consumption products will create an angry population – a population that has largely become spoiled and softened, with the expectation that .gov will ‘deliver the goods’ during a time of crisis. They may deliver some of the goods for a small crisis, but if our hypothetical is larger than that – then watch out… these same people will have the same expectations, and when their needs are not met, well, a variety of things may happen…
Many of the unprepared will not know what to do. Many will whither in place.
Others will start knocking on doors. If the situation looks like it will remedy within days or weeks, will you help those who knock on your door? I would speculate that most would if they could – depending on who’s at the door.
However if you’re facing a hypothetical breakdown that is much more severe with the likelihood of lasting a very long time (life-altering), then I would speculate that many of the prepared will instead ‘hunker down’ and will be much less likely to part with their preps to the unprepared.
The best way for the prepared to be prepared for the unprepared is to become the gray man.
The ‘gray man’ is a concept of not being noticed. Blending in. Not standing out.
This is why the concept of OPSEC (operational security) is so very important. Sadly, in today’s world, having a deep pantry of food storage is looked upon as odd (and others will distinctly remember it). These same people will most certainly and absolutely remember it if and when the time comes…
With that said, it’s best to keep your mouth shut (unless you need a few select others to help with your overall situation or group).
Your personal and homestead security will vary widely depending on where you live and what type of people are around you. I’ll suspect that security may be minimal for some while absolutely crucial for others. With that said, I believe this requires some serious thought.

Time and time again, you will hear reference to becoming a “gray man.” This is one of the most important tips you can ever take away from prepping resources.

While you may be fully stocked and have an awesome arsenal of weapons and be equipped with a loaded out bug out vehicle, broadcasting this to others absolutely goes against everything that prepping is all about. You want to go unnoticed. You want others to think you are as bad off as they are.

For that reason, maybe it would be good to skip a few meals once in a while when SHTF. Not only will your rations last longer, but you'll look just as hungry as everyone else should you decide to venture out for intel. The last thing you need is people thinking you're well-fed and following you home to your bug out location.

Nothing to prepare for, shoot on sight unless it’s a family and they look like they have something to offer.

Yes there is something to prepare for. Medical emergencies, food shortage, enemies…..

That isn’t what this article is about though. It’s about how to react and prepare for those who have adamantly denied having to prepare for anything. The sheep. In those terms alone, there is no need to prepare for them because when shtf, it’s about survival. My goal is to keep MY family alive and safe, not others.

You are right but “dealing” with the unprepared would be swift and easy unless it’s a family.

W.omen A.gainst I.slamic L.aw, thank you for your baseless observation but my family and I are doing just fine in that department. If you want to placate to those who are sheep, that is on you. I will have NO TIME for that crap, my family’s safety comes first.

Anthony Tidd I have no idea what you are talking about. Obviously, a breakdown somewhere along the line. I was simply making the point that if you are prepared, truly prepared, you are ready for anything. I have no idea where your family came in at…thought we were talking about those that are unprepared
