How To Make An Arrow From A Metal Spoon

Broad-head arrows are a very effective way of felling and killing game.

While they are illegal in some states for regular hunting, in a survival situation, where civil law has broken down or if you are stranded in the wilderness, they could be a life saver.

Using a spoon to fashion a very sharp and effective weapon is easy and it is legal to make them and throw them in your survival kit or bug-out bag.

You will need a metal spoon, plumber's torch, hammer, grinding tool, workbench vice or anvil service and a carpenter's pencil or Sharpie for marking the spoon.

If you do not have access to these tools (say in an emergency situation,) you can improvise to fashion your arrow.

A Note of Caution: Hunting with a broad-head arrow is illegal in some states. Check your state laws before attempting this project.

I buy spoons at yard sales just for this. I thought I was the only one. Also I polish mine, it smooths the metal for better performance. And don’t forget to temper them, you don’t want them to bend. Get creative with the shapes and designs. Great post, I think I’ll make some tomorrow.

I’m interested in how you heat treat them and what hardness they are after. Do they flex? Do you also temper them?
