As many of you already know, Gander Mountain is a much-loved retail network of stores for hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor recreation products and services.
Outdoorsman and preppers go crazy for this place and for good reason. It sells many unique and wonderful items just waiting for the inspired survivalist.
Sadly, a bombshell has been dropped by this popular store. Gander Mountain has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It will be closing 32 stores in 11 states and is currently looking for a buyer. It was thought that the popular Bass Pro Shop was in contention but that is now looking iffy.
In a media release by store representatives states that Gander Mountain is failing financially and the best path available is to sell the company. Sad indeed, particularly if no one steps up to the plate.

Andy Simonds I didn’t read it yet, but we gotta keep a close eye on this. Possible store closing sales in the future?!
A couple months ago, we had a large Gander Mountain open close to me. They had a huge grand opening that was a lot of fun. This is strange and sad.
Its what happens when you overprice everything. You couldn’t get a good deal at gander mtn if they paid you to shop there.
Hopefully they stay open but who knpws
Damn now where am I going to go when the conservatives Riot and loot and steal
Jason Worden
They just built one by me about a yr or so ago. Overpriced as hell.
Good over priced Chinese crap
Matt Johnson Dylan Johnson
Sad but I went in to buy a CRKT hawk and it was nearly $30 more than Amazon. I waited the 2 days for Amazon.
Academy. Done.
High prices suck. Customers win. Thank you freemarket.
Where you at the one I’ve been going to had great prices?
Greed for more money ran the business, not the employees.
… Well when your prices are astronomical…..
Only a few store out west. East coast is good
So does this mean stuff is gonna be for sale?
While the overpricing is definitely the main cause, I avoid them as much as possible because of the non stop “country music” playing. You may like it, I don’t. At all. Ambiance is important to shopping.
Tim Helsley…
I’ve been to several here in FL. In terms of fishing and hunting gear, they are way overpriced compared to Academy and even Dicks. Academy has the best prices hands down here in North Florida.
Same in northeast Ohio. Even their lowest priced online are easily 10-20% above any other retailers.
They should try lowering their prices lol i would go there more often if they did
We are getting a Bass Pro in the next year or so. Once that happens, Gander will say bye bye up here.
The happiest place on earth lol. Wish I had one near here.

The ones by us are still safe… But for how long?
Matthew Edwards I find them to be expensive!
I have to agree with you they definitely overpriced everything.
a*****e sales people, high prices…bubye
They have been in and out of bankruptcy since 1999…nothing new and not a surprise
Not shocking. I always found them expensive.
That sucks. That was a good company with fair prices.
Me too. You in tulsa?
No. This one’s in South Texas.
Turning into a clothing store don’t help, either
It’s a restructure, aka cut expenses and save cash at the top. Common business practice for the wealthy and corporate America.
They are closing 32 stores which most are in Texas according to Management of my local store General Manager.
Selling $400 rifles for $600 what did you expect
Beat it nerd
2 main reasons they’re getting rekt:
1)$#%&!@*prices
2) their gun selection is worse than most pawn shops (especially since they went full SJW during the Obama school shooting years)
I’m glad. Meanwhile, Field and Stream and Cabelas are doing fantastic.
Not quite sure how a sporting goods store could possibly be a social justice warrior (or if you knew what sjw actually meant) but regardless, terrible selection I agree. Used guns are over the price of new guns online. That’s bad marketing.
Too bad the weapons are over priced and the staff is largely lacking in knowledge of their stock. At least at my closest location.
Too many stores selling overpriced Bangladesh made camouflage.
Never been there so who cars
Academy would be great
That sucks. I liked this store. Especially for shooting equipment and ammo!
They deserve it…15-20% mark up over retail and they wonder why SMART people wont shop there
Oilfield crisis strikes again! Billions of dollars have been removed from the economy from the oilfield fallout.
A store filing bankruptcy doesn’t mean it’s going to close. It means they have more debt than income and are using a law that allows them to get out of those debts.
Yes steep prices drive away sales, along with very extremely limited selection on anything.
Well being an outdoor store their target audience of most of their products listen to country at least some of the time. Beats the hell out of hearing hip hop.
Gander Mountain, Bass Pro Shop,$#%&!@*s Sporting Goods, Cabela’s, and all sporting good stores alike won’t be able to sustain themselves In these times I feel. Look at the square footage of some of the stores, they’re huge! The build-out alone is a fortune, the utilities & maintenance has to be enormous. Whether they lease the property or purchase it it’s extremely costly! Ebay, Amazon, OfferUp, Let It Go, Craigslist, all the Facebook for sale sites they just can’t compete. I believe all these big box stores are just shuffling money around until all the cards fall.. Sports Authority Winchester first to go and if these big box stores keep on filing bankruptcy it won’t be long before the correction comes again, I believe this is just a tell tell sign.
