Gander Mountain Officially Files for Bankruptcy

Gander Mnt

Gander Mountain is currently prepping for an auction of their company but assures its currently employees they will be paid in the interim. The auction will take place in April with an ownership change in May.

Here's a list of the stores slated for closing:
Alabama (4) – Gadsden, Mobile, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa
Georgia (3) – Augusta, McDonough, Snellville
Illinois (3) – Champaign, Algonquin, Springfield
Indiana (2) – Merrillville, Greenfield
Minnesota (3) – Rogers, Mankato, Woodbury
New York (1) – New Hartford
North Carolina (2) – Raleigh, South Charlotte
Tennessee (1) – Chattanooga
Texas (10) – Houston, Killeen, Laredo, Lubbock, Round Rock, San Antonio, Sugar Land, Texarkana, Waco, West Houston
West Virginia (1) – Charleston
Wisconsin (2) – Eau Claire, Germantown

It is always sad when any store sees its end coming. For the survivalist and prepper, or any outdoorsman, it is especially sad when a sporting goods chain disappears because we love these places.

We can explore for hours, looking at a variety of wonderful survival items that someone with less interest in the outdoors might think dull.

A big thanks to Outdoor Life for bringing this sad event to our attention. Here is hoping the other big name stores like Bass Pro Shops can maintain their integrity and cliental – and live long into the future!

They want $199 for a gun that retails new for $150. They literally want $400 and up for muzzleloaders. No understanding that it’s moderate budgets that drive most hunters.

The store here has been reducing the amount of hunting merchandise for years so My friends and family stopped shopping there, not surprised

I’m looking for a Glock 32.. “Glock doesn’t make a 32. They make a 9, 40, 45, 10mm and 380. Base model special order is $725” ….. never mind….. this conversation is why I’m not surprised at bankruptcy and store closure news.

Maybe if they didnt have so many snobby assholes working the gun counter and ammo thats at least $2.00 more than anyone else….

Patrick as you grow a little older Country will settle with you. Mike if I’m not mistaken it was either$#%&!@*s or Academy last time I went in. Both suck. Academy hides the fact they sell AR type rifles to protect snowflakes, while$#%&!@*s quit carrying them following the “Sandy Hook” performance. Academy treats you like a criminal for buying a gun from them even going as far as making you leave the store before giving you possession of your purchased firearm.

I think we are heading for an economic upswing thanks to our new President. The economic growth will ensure more Americans can have a hobby and the numbers alone will be enough to drive sales back up in these stores. You can’t buy a gun online, without shipping to an FFL holder, can’t buy ammunition affordable after shipping, and there is nobody to answer questions available online even though too many times people working the counters have no idea anyway.

I hope you’re right. The thing is Mr. Trump changing policies or implementing new ones takes many many many many years for them to actually to take effect. Most of them will take longer than a 8 year term. I believe out of all the giant box stores one will remain which one that is is unknown to me and I think that’s what they’re all probably battling is, who’s going to stay afloat. History shows that we do have a correction coming in the economy again. I don’t believe it will be as bad as 2005 but it’s coming. Next time you’re out in your car look around, look at all the building that’s taken place it’s been going on everywhere for years now, any type of building, apartments, offices, residential, commercial. There’s not enough money to support all of it. Even the best of presidents cannot keep it from happening. Where the president comes into place is damage control. This is when they print money, lower taxes and lower interest rates. I hope you’re right I just don’t think it’s plausible at this time though. After Trump gets another 4 year term it will be looking much better for us. If Trump does a eight-year term and we get another Republican president I think we’ll be in good shape as a country.

Gander Mountain quit selling AR-15s during most of the Obama years after Sandy Hook (among most other semi-auto rifles).

Why does it say ” page responded privately” on most of the comments?

Glock 23 at sportsmans or local mom and pop $549. Glock 23 at gander mountain $749.

Slander Mountain down here in north bama is a joke 20-30% over price on guns, frequent shortages on common calibers and abysmal customer service. They’re just another big box, sadly it’ll be the lowest employees that suffer not those that made poor business decisions.

Bankruptcy for an over priced retail store who try to snake you at every chance. Serves them right

  13. Ray James said:

maybe if they had people that new what the they are doing that might keep more business

  14. Richard Getman said:

I used to buy gun supplies from them. well yeah if you are comparing there prices with product dumping from China they are going to be more expesive, but you get what you pay for.

Thier people Didnt know$#%&!@* I waited 45 min. To have him get me a Remington 870 express, most popular shot gun ever made! I left. Went to academy and it took 20 seconds for him to pull one out and lay it on the counter. Gander mountain deserves to go out.

They want way to much for stuff. And at Christmas had to stand in line for like 40 minutes. And that’s sad because it wasn’t that crowded.

  17. Kent Caskey said:

Wow. Your Academy sucks. Not like that around here. ARs all over the rack and do what every other store that sales guns do. Walk it to front.

  18. Michael Herre said:

One in my area is having a moving sale. They actually raised the prices then slapped on a 40% off sticker so in all honesty it was maybe 10 % off…. Oh same item was on Amazon new for 10 dollars cheaper than sale price.. Never shopping there again

  19. Jay Davi said:

Ahhh man I loved them too didnt they become Cabelas?

  20. Thomas Manse said:

They want over $400+ for muzzleloaders, no matter that the same one sells for $179 at Walmart. It isn’t like they are selling quality American products and prices reflect that. They sell the same$#%&!@*as everyone else but ask a buttload more for it. They only carry Hornady dies, so they don’t stock a set less that $50, what’s wrong with stocking that great American brand Lee? Maybe you live somewhere that $400 for a low end muzzleloader is fair but here in TN competition drives them prices down where they should be. They price powders on par with Bass Pro Shops, proof you can get better prices without catching a sale elsewhere. I’m curious what exactly they do price fairly. I also refuse to pay $.10+ per round for .22LR. In CA or OR that may be cheap, but again it ain’t in TN.

  21. Jay Genske said:

They are the highest priced around. No wonder they are having troubles

  22. George Parsons said:

Well when upper level management take too much money…….This is what happens. Obuma gave them a handout. Trump is letting them sink. If the big shots took a pay cut I am gambling they wouldn’t file bankruptcy

  23. Anthony Martone said:

I am surprised it took this long, I would never buy anything at gander they are overpriced

  24. Scott Leblanc said:

Took a unfired lever action limited edition rifle there to sell. (Dumb move I know, needed to pay bills).
Well, was offered 300 cash or 400 trade. Kicked myself in the butt when I saw it the next week for 1700$ in the ” museum”.
Wish I would have known more about the gun because I was dumb enough to believe it was only worth 4 – $500 which is what they had told me. Dum dum dum dum dum dum dum but basically they’re a rip off
