Figuring Out the Most Reliable Transportation After an EMP

open road

For those of you that do not know, an EMP is an electromagnetic pulse, caused by a sudden burst of electromagnetic energy. An EMP can damage electronics that you have in your home, or in more serious circumstances, cause damage to buildings, vehicles, and even the landscape itself.

Lightning can cause an EMP, as can nuclear weapons. We've all seen evidence of the power of an EMP – think of a power outage by lightning or the ruin of a city struck by a nuclear explosion.

In the event of an EMP, it can be difficult to identify which means of transportation will still be reliable. Will cars still work? Airplanes? Or will you have to walk everywhere? Depending on the strength of an EMP, you might be extremely limited in your options.

Read an article where they generated a localized emp to test cars. Out of 26 cars only 8 or 9 quit, with all but one being restarted after coming to a stop. Car ignitions, standard or electronic have been shielded for decades, or your AM/FM radios wouldn’t work. But with the grid down fuel could be challenging.

Um, where are you planning on going? Unless looking for electricity in neighboring country.. This is why people prep.. Defending what you have against others or heading out into the unknown with little food, water etc.. Um I’m not leaving for at least a month, and then only to find what the dead left behind for me to help aid my survival.. Candles , clothes, blankets plastic wrap. Bandaids etc…

    Look at a listoid engine
Hand crank small light air cooled diesel engine that would work great for small cart like a modified golf cart

’85 K5 Blazer with the 6.2 Diesel (Army M1009). Zero electronics and many fuel choices. My only small concern is the alternator but I have back ups. Bring on the EMP!

You’ll need more than that. Electronic ignition plus all the bs sensors that computer relies on will most likely all be toast. My baby is truly emp proof 😉

I’m shielding my electrical system as I do upgrades. My Jeep is simple and I can bypass most sensors.I learned a lot about shielding when the hawks had their problems in the 80’s.

Vehicles, gas or diesel, still need to refuel, if you don’t have your own to last forever remember the station down the street won’t be able to pump any without power!

Golf carts? I guess he forgot that solar panels and electric motors have silicon chips in them as well.

FYI Any vehicle with a points/magneto ingnition will run after an EMP. Nothing electronic or computerized will survive. Also, stock up on AV gas, I will not go bad (lots of lead too)……..

All I need are.my boots, my AR, and some ammo, the rest will fall in place, or I’ll TAKE whatever I need from a liberal anti gunner…..

I would say a standard auto that get the most MPG. After the auto fails or gas is not available then the pedal bike with a carriage attached can provide faster transport than walking. Walking is always an option ESP in the woods. Things like this need to be though about and explored because tonight or tomorrow or next week we may need to implement the plan!

Anything with an alternator might start but without a functioning voltage regulator it won’t last long powering the ignition from the battery! An old generator and mechanical voltage regulator will still work! They can be cannibalized from most small planes and adapted for use in a car or truck to recharge the battery!

If you think you are ready for a EMP please read this book. One second After by William R. Forstchen. It will open your eyes.
