During Doomsday You’ll Eventually Run Out of Ammo. Here’s How to Make Gunpowder the Old Fashioned Way.

Gunpowder

SHTF usually only focuses on short-term survival situations where after the initial shock wears off, it's usually only days or perhaps only hours before the situation has passed.

However, not all SHTF situations are temporary. How can you really know for certain that when the grid goes down, it won't be permanent? You never know, a natural or man-made disaster could completely wipe out everything except for the men and women who survived in their bunkers.

The possibility of a long-term bug out situation is why survivalists put emphasis on knowing the skills on how to make essentials such as weapons and more specifically, gunpowder.

If a survivalist is smart, they will have already been stocking enough food to last them a long period, however, when it's all gone you will need your weapons to help you catch game. And when your ammunition runs out you're going to need to know how to make more of it.

After the break, learn how you can make gunpowder for a long-term survival situation and add this imperative skill to your skillset.

Trapping, not only can you trap more game in one night than you can hunt in a week, just up scale it and it works just as well on people. Even while you sleep!

I don’t understand why everyone thinks you gotta hunt to eat. fish and gardens are very valuble. Hell, ever think there might be someone waiting on you to drag your game out of the woods to ambush you? Learn “gorilla” gardening, your local edable plants.$#%&!@* most wild edables are better for you! Learn trees and plants for herbal and medixal use. Stock up on needed meds. Look for herbal replacements as much as possible. Willow tree has asprin in inner bark, oak tree can be used for headaches. Lots more, to many to list hefe. Tumeric lowers blood pressure, pine needle tea is a massive infussion of vitamin C. Educate yourself on these topics and you will go far.

There are several people on You Tube that can show you how to make bow and arrows.

Randy Gentry, your information is erroneous. 30-30 Winchester was the first modern smokeless cartridge.

Lewis you must remember 90% of people out there will not bite the hand that feeds them

The trouble with raiding Guard armories is that since the civil unrest of the 1960s there hasn’t been live ammunition stored in them.

Great article, except you forgot instructions on how to convert the trusty firearms of today into flintlock. Either that or how to make primers for your brass cartridges.
Of course, the other comments here about black powder not being very compatible with today’s guns may just be important, too.
Me? I’ll stick to my archery. And for those doubters, I’d advise ‘may the odds be ever in your favor’, ’cause you’re gonna need ’em. Ask the French Knights at Agincourt.

I have the sulphur and potassium nitrate, just need charcoal and that’s the easiest to obtain.

It’s unlikely I will outlive my ammo.
It’s unlikely a platoon will outlive my ammo.

And why would someone with a decent amount of ammo run out? Deer and unarmed people don’t shoot back. Gunfights with armed people don’t last long so the thought that you need 10k bullets and then start making your own is a stretch.

James Walls The Romans also used them to launch giant arrows, or bolts that were iron tipped. The first armor piercing ammo if you will.

Bovine excrement. Black powder is not a substitute propellant in a smokeless cartridge.

Armories don’t keep ammo at them it’s against regulations it can only be stored for 24 hours or less if your waiting to do a turn in. All ASPs (ammunition Supply Points can be heavy guarded contain bunkers that are virtually indestructible, and most Bases only carry enough for ranges and basic issue for deployment. They receive new shipments regularily, from where you ask?? Exactly you don’t know, and no ones going to tell you

This is interesting, but very time consuming, and implies the need for a long term fixed place of residence. A rifle using compressed air is easier to fabricate, maintain, and can be recharged in minutes. Or seconds. While they are not as powerful as a smokeless powder weapon, they are very competitive with black powder weapons. And they produce no smoke, and far less noise. And no nighttime muzzle flash.

Flame weapons will be the key, take the oxygen, stop the vehicle, defeat the armor

Salt peter, sulfur,& charcoal. Simple . made it all the time as a kid

Sorry Chet, but Bp burns, and at a slower rate than smokeless powder. This is one of the reasons for moving away from BP. The volumes required in a round were greater due to the slow burn. At times the powder charge is still in the burn stage as the projectile of exiting the barrell. Don’t believe me? Take a tablespoon of both powders, and make a thin trail, but both starting from the same point. Touch a match to that point and watch the race.

After you learn how to make gun powder take a course on primer and bullet making.

During doomsday or whatever, you are all going to die no matter how much ammo you have, they have more and there are a lot more of them.
