During Doomsday You’ll Eventually Run Out of Ammo. Here’s How to Make Gunpowder the Old Fashioned Way.

Gunpowder

SHTF usually only focuses on short-term survival situations where after the initial shock wears off, it's usually only days or perhaps only hours before the situation has passed.

However, not all SHTF situations are temporary. How can you really know for certain that when the grid goes down, it won't be permanent? You never know, a natural or man-made disaster could completely wipe out everything except for the men and women who survived in their bunkers.

The possibility of a long-term bug out situation is why survivalists put emphasis on knowing the skills on how to make essentials such as weapons and more specifically, gunpowder.

If a survivalist is smart, they will have already been stocking enough food to last them a long period, however, when it's all gone you will need your weapons to help you catch game. And when your ammunition runs out you're going to need to know how to make more of it.

After the break, learn how you can make gunpowder for a long-term survival situation and add this imperative skill to your skillset.

Knowing how to make GPS is good, but without slugs and peers, you still won’t be able to shoot.

If society really, really falls apart then the period of darkness could last dozens of years. You’d be better off living in Chile, New Zealand, or Canada.

The charcoal and alum are fairly easy in the field with basic knowledge of geology, tsaltpeter in natural concentrations are scarce. Save lots of nickels for casings.Nitric cellulose for primers is also problematic.

Ya, no, I don’t think so. Just saying. And it is far easier to make cordite than gunpowder. Just saying.

I don’t hear anyone say they have enough bombs. Knowing how to make powder might be useful for those.

Stockpile primers and switch your guns to straight walled BP “cowboy” guns.

‘Catching game’ isn’t going to be a reliable way to eat…. Y’all know how quick the game was wiped out during the Great Depression? With less people? And much less sophisticated weaponry?

Where can I see illustrations of these devices? I have never seen a scorpion or a onager before. They sound interesting.

  13. Samuel Adams said:

google them. Ballista, onager and scorpion were used by the Romans. The trebuchet was later used from 900 70 2500. Cannons replaced the trebuchet.

REALLY?? wouldn’t it just be easier to kill someone that had some, instead of going to the trouble of making some, the first thing that will happen if a revolution, will be the looting of military bases , and national guard armories , there will be enough ammo for under ground warfare for years

If we go back to ‘black powder’ we will need to remake most of our modern weapons as well.Black powder will foul them and make them non-functional in no time. As well, as it might not have the needed power to operate reloading mechanisms.

Louis , Obama has spent YEARS and Billions of Dollars secretly Arming up His Private Army that do Not Answer to Congress like our Military, It’s call The Department of Homeland Security , They have thousands of Wheeled Tank, Hundreds of thousands of “State of the Art Assault Weapons” and Billions of rounds of Ammo , There is No Code of Conduct for these people and they only answer to the Just-Us Department ! All Obama has to do is Deploy Our Military oversea’s and let HIS “SS” Troops loose .Think About it .

  22. Timmy Lewis said:

Sorry, but since gangsters used to rob national guard armories way back in the day, ammunition is no longer kept at the armory level. Now, you might walk out with some weapons if you are successful in breaking into the arms vault, but you’re not getting any ammo to go with them….. If you’re lucky they may have some bayonets around, so at least you’ll be stealing pointy sticks….

  23. Louis Mulvaney said:

so you are telling me the national guard has no ammo, wow that should make us feel safe

  24. Timmy Lewis said:

When an emergency arises that requires ammunition (which is very rare), ammunition is distributed to the armories that need it, from either a central National Guard facility within the state or from a federal military installation at which the that states guard has it stored.
It is not like a national emergency requiring mass amounts of ammunition wouldn’t come without some warning.
You’ve been perfectly safe for decades with no ammunition stored at armories.
There may be a very small quantity of ammo for a pistol or rifle on hand for the event of the alarm system failing, requiring an armed guard on site until the problem is fixed, but the amount would about 1 magazine worth and not much more.

  25. David Hutton said:

Better get you a few muzzleloaders or rolling blocks and all the needed stuff for THAT, if you’re gonna hang your hat on this information.

  26. Chris Hussong said:

I have a feeling there will be plenty, laying on the ground covered in blood. Pray to God it never happens. We don’t need this.
