Don’t Forget These 11 ‘Must-Haves’ Almost Everyone Forgets to Stockpile

fertilizer

Make a list and include the following. You will need it all. Think about the future! Some of these might even go on your “oh yeah!” list.

Food
Food is where we all start, but have you thought of these?

Spices
Your meals are going to get awfully bland if you don’t have spices to flavor them. What you have in your kitchen might last a few months, but that’s about it.

Salt
Everyone has salt in their stockpile, but do you have enough? Salt isn’t just necessary for flavoring our food; it’s also for preserving meat. If you’re going to hunt at all, you need a couple hundred pounds of salt on hand for meat preservation.

Food Production
Most of us are planning on producing at least some of our own food, if not all of it, in the wake of a disaster. But do you have everything you need to expand your garden to that size? A 20-foot garden plot isn’t going to be enough; you’re going to need to turn your entire backyard into a garden.

Fertilizer
Few people bother stockpiling fertilizer, but if you’re going to have to expand your garden rapidly, you’re going to need a mountain of it.

Animal feed
Those chickens, rabbits or goats you have are going to need to eat — or you won’t be able to eat them.

Health
We all know we need a first-aid kit, although most don’t go far enough in stockpiling replacement supplies for theirs. But there are a few other key items you might want to consider.

Spare glasses
For those who wear prescription glasses, this will be a necessity if they are going to do anything to help keep their families alive.

Reading glasses
Even if you don’t need them now, don’t assume you never will. Reading glasses are great for any close-up work or working with small things.

Vitamins
If your diet isn’t going to be as well-balanced as it should be, a good quality multivitamin might go a long way towards keeping your health up.

Clothing
Few people think about stockpiling clothing — which means that there will be a lot of people wondering what to do when the time comes. A few specific things you need to think of are:

Kids’ clothing
Kids grow a lot, and you need to have larger sizes on hand than what they are using now.

Work gloves
I guarantee you, you’ll need them. But they tend to wear out, so have some spares.

Rough clothing
Most of us don’t wear very rugged clothing. If you don’t, stock up.

Work or hiking boots
Especially important if you have to bug out.

And remember to gather things you love as well as need. Personally, we cannot do without white bean chicken chili and have cans and cans of the stuff stocked away.

Another example? Does little Suzie have a favorite bubble bath? It may seem like a little and foolish thing but if it makes her happy, get more than one bottle or box of the stuff.

And what about son Sam? Teens may be selective and want the latest but even they have favorites. Maybe a certain kind of socks or hair gel?

Just keep these things in mind and when a collapse happens knowing there are things there that seems normal can make a difference.
