They’re not $100 anymore. Arch angel makes a bad$#%&!@*stock and 10 rd mag set up. Also set up for a drop in timini trigger.

They are a very nice rifle all things, especially price, considered. They aren’t available for a hundred bucks anymore, though. Maybe a couple hundred.

Diane Jacobsen well I say this because you said for protection and food. It’s light small caliber so it won’t kick and 30 shots because you said you don’t have a lot of experience. It would also drop a deer or pig no problem. Great for home protection. Get a pistol for the car and your personal protection.

Ok I see now…thank you. Not real sure I want a gun but if I’m fixing to be alone in this world I’m beginning to rethink guns….not sure about a pistol tho

Diane Jacobsen no like I said lil girls shoot them. Very light. And shorter than a hunting rifle.

No, I live in the People’s Republic of NJ. That rifle has a pinned stock, pinned and welded muzzle brake and 15 round magazine (permanently blocked).

My only opposition to this is that I’ve never had a problem acquiring 54r ammo, I consider it common and it has a great price point even in premium brands

I got one in the 90s for 50 bucks it has the hammer and sickle. Right before Clinton did the import ban it shoots better with the bayonet out.

I bought mine for $130. The gov changed the trade laws and price went up.

I got a 22 savage arms hunting rifle I’m in love with. Cheap rounds, light weight, accurate. Plus in any sort of end of the world/apocalyptic event a handful goes a long way in a rush situation not to mention it has all the killing capabilities of larger caliber weapons

I have to agree. My SKS was a $100 purchase and I love it. They go for $500 now and I would rather have another AR at that price. I just purchased a Savage Model 10 in 308, a great round and affordable, for $550. I don’t see me paying $500 for a Mosin. I would love to have one, but I am priced out the market.

Love the mosin. Picked up several a few years ago for 99 each. I can’t find them in my area for less than 500 now. Even ammo on them jumped thru the roof

I love the Mosin Nagant. But can’t find them at that price anymore. I Wish.

I think you’re completely right about how outdated the 91/30 is, but the 54r round is in too great of a supply still to be an ignorable round. IMO an American company like Savage or Marlin should chamber it in one of their rifles. I’d love to have a modern bolt action chambered in 7.62x54r

Too bad these are $300+ now thanks to Obama, was just at a gun show this weekend dealers want crazy money for these now 8 years ago you could buy one for under $100 not anymore

  22. Greg Farzetta said:

They aren’t rare Obama changed the import law a few years back making them harder to get

I got one for $50 and it blows holes through quarter inch steel at 50 yards with iron sights. Kicks$#%&!@*

Obama killed it all. Russian 5.45×39 was $70.00 for 1080 round cans, 7.62x54R was $40.00 for 400 round cans. And Mosins have tripled in price.A few years ago Dunhams sports had 91/30s for $78.00. They came with ammo pouch, bayonet, cleaning kits, and sling. I bought one of the hex receiver ones for the price of $78.00. I love that gun. It’s accurate as hell and well worth 3-4 times what I paid. I’ve always wanted the shorter barrel carbine ones with the folding bayonet , I think they are M39s and M44s but can’t remember. They were like $100.00 and I didn’t want to shell out the extra $20.00. I deffinetly should have. J & G sales also had Styer carbines for like $90.00 4 or 5 years back, but the ammo was too expensive.

Not including collectors for either rifle:

For the SKS, I remember buying them new in the box many years ago for $79 (Chinese SKS) with the new cleaning kits and chest rig. I owned many, and the price slowly went up from supply and demand. For what they cost now, for a little more I can get an Arsenal AK or something comparable.

For the Mosins, when they were around $100 they were great. Especially when you could go to gun shows and pick what you wanted out of big crates.

As they climb higher in price, they price themselves out of cheap surplus and become collector rifles. I like the 54r round, but can find modern rifles in 308 that are easy to upgrade.

It all depends what you want the rifles for. For me, when the prices rise it’s time to sell and get something with current technology. I’d rather have one $2000 modern rifle then ten $200 Mosins. It all depends on what you think is the best value for your money.
