After Doomsday a Prepper Will Eventually Run Out of Ammo. Here’s How to Make Gunpowder the Old Fashioned Way.

Gunpowder

SHTF normally mainly focuses on short-term survival situations where after you're done feeling shocked, it's usually only days or hours before the before the situation is over.

However, not all collapses are temporary. How can a prepper know for certain that when the collapse takes place that it isn't permanent? You never know, a man-made or natural disaster could wipe out everything except for the people who have survived it thanks to their sturdy bunkers.

The potential of a long-term bug out situation is why preppers believe it's so important to understand the skills on how to make essential items such as weapons and specifically, gunpowder.

If a prepper is wise, they will have already been stocking up food to last them a while, however, when it's all used it they will need weapons to help them catch food. When ammunition is gone it's important to know how to make more of it.

On the next page, check out step-by-step instructions on how to make gunpowder for a long-term SHTF situation and add this essential skill to your survival expertise.

OK, so you can make gunpowder from scratch. You better have a flintlock to use it in, because you won’t have a primer to ignite it in a centerfire weapon.

Got that covered also,a Barrett 250 pound pull Crossbow with $400.00 worth of Knocks (Arrows). It’s quiet with an abundance of range and it’s LETHAL and Lethally Accurate on a calm day with little wind. The only problem I have with it is reload time,it takes a bit of time to crank the string back to lock it in place as pulling it by hand is Not Possible. The second probblem is the cost of Ammo,$7.00 each for target knocks and Broadheads are $10.00 each so $400.00 worth of them isn’t that many it’s only 40 knocks

That’s interesting about the matches, what about the metal for the primer, far as flintlocks go I’m not getting a flintlock sorry. Lol

Exactly, they can help you disappear without your consent.

Not to mention no primers to load with most all center-fire weapons will not use black powder effectively takes a lot more powder than the cartridges can hold

🙂 I just figure it’s best to keep what you have a secret for that kind of situation. Don’t need people coming for what you got if they read about it online lol.

Learn how to make and use a bow. The materials for making black powder may not always be available, but you can always make a bow and arrows

Billy sure you can feed your family by hunting under normal circumstances in some areas of the country, the problem will be the millions in the cities that will turn to the countryside. To find food when food shipments stop. You have little competition now but with millions of city folk doing the same thing it will cease being the easy pickens you have been used to. Beginner hunters can get very good when they are hungry. It truly saddens me when so called big hunters talk about how well they and their family will do in a disaster but they have no care for their neighbor, their community, and their country, way to go patriot. I suppose you will probably create your own barony out of our nation.:(

Sorry but I’m already on the list for being a patriot and anarchistxD so you have to find it yourself but here is a good place to start local library or gun show. If I new you it would be different but I don’t want to accidently help some zealot with info that he ciuld use to blow up any of my countrymen..

All the ammo in the world will not help you if you run out of water my friend.

  12. Fred Roth said:

Nope. I can’t possibly live long enough to shoot all of my ammo. I’ve got a lifetime supply if I live to be 500 years old. 😀 Maybe if I lived to be as old as Methuseleh.

It will take me a long time to run out of ammo so manny different guns have ammo for them all better chance of taking ammo from a corpse that will fit one of my guns.

Kris Gibeau who knows if it’s true he may be bluffing! Lol

Easy peasey this was the first prepped skill I learned a long time ago . Now I’m working on rocket fuel cause …you know cannons are hard to move around

  16. Antonio Woodard said:

Then learn how to make and use a bow…learn how to make and use axes and knives for close quarter combat. Boom you are a human weapon when ammo depletes.

Doesn’t actually tell how to make black powder, just saltpeter…

In my opinion you should save ammo and guns for protection and use primitive weapons like basic recurve bow and arrows for hunting so you dont give away your position. Arrows are alot easier to make than bullets, primers and gun powder. As a matter of fact, where would you even find primers and bullets when all the factories are gone that make them unless you run around salvaging lead tire balancers and meting them down for muzzle loaders.

Swords, bows/arrows, & axes are potentially as useful & more easily “reloaded”.

Lost all mine in a boating accident. I got beans though! Come take ’em! Lol

I’m betting you won’t have favorable results using black powder in modern cartridges.
You’d have to use a musket.

  22. Kevin Novak said:

If you’re down to making black powder from scratch for muskets you may as well use a bow at that point, easier to make make arrows and better rate of fire if not range.

  23. Joseph Felice said:

No amount of bullets will help you if a real mob comes at your community. Many people imagine there family taking on three or four strangers. 100 even unarmed would overtake you unless you have a locked underground bunker you never plan to emerge from. They are going to line up and take you on one or two at a time like Stallone’s movies.

Good thing there’s an endless supply of kinetic energy. If you’re prepping and not learning how to use a bow or crossbow, you’re dropping the ball.

  25. Brad Chaisson said:

If I survive long enough to burn through all my ammo I will be one bad$#%&!@*or very stupid mofo. Anyone that expects to have firefight after firefight and escape alive over and over is delusional. Avoid combat at all cost, save your ammo, you will be lucky if you need it a second time.

Gorilla warfare is the most intelligent option.
Encounter the enemy, dominate the enemy, acquire the possessions of the enemy…move on to the next engagement.
    Rinse and repeat.
Learn to hunt, farm and learn to preserve foodstuffs…collect seeds, learn your terrain and what resources it offers.
Salt, Tobacco, Sugar, Sulphur, antibiotics, etc for use as well as barter.

Gunpowder is worthless in most firearms without primers. I keep my stock of primers stored in the bottom of their brass cases along with the powder and the bullet. Lol

Von Letow made his own gun powder in SE Africa during the Great War, and he surrendered after the armistice but maintained that he could have gone on indefinitely. Welcomed as a hero in Germany.
