SHTF normally mainly focuses on short-term survival situations where after you're done feeling shocked, it's usually only days or hours before the before the situation is over.
However, not all collapses are temporary. How can a prepper know for certain that when the collapse takes place that it isn't permanent? You never know, a man-made or natural disaster could wipe out everything except for the people who have survived it thanks to their sturdy bunkers.

Or you could just learn to use a bow? Or even more effective, traps. In a survival situation thinking outside the box is better than trying to macgyver something (that is very time consuming)that may or may not work.

Without reading all of this…. if you are in enough fights to run out of ammo, you should be scavenging the dead whenever possible. Second, any prepper or person stupid enough to put black powder through a modern firearm, or vice versa, with the exception of special shotgun loads, please youtube a video of you shooting it so the rest of can learn why this is a bad idea. i shoot both modern day firearms and muzzleloader. BP burns slower than modern firearms, which in the case of most modern firearms this could lead to an explosion in your barrel if the bullet isn’t traveling fast enough. Modern day powder burns to rapid to use in a muzzleloader which means to much gas, bullet does not clear and barrel explodes. Here is my common sense method for most noob preppers out there. Start with a shotgun, ammo is usually easy to find, common, and a shotgun has multiple uses from self-defense to hunting black bear. Second, learn to use a bow, recurve or compound, worse case a crossbow. Crossbows are to slow on the reload.
I I knew how to make that freshman year in high school and everybody thought I was going to blow up the school I am no crazy person it’s just nice to know things just in case shtf but here I am at 22 years of age and electrical engineer still no problems just building amplifiers pursuing my dream

Black powder is vastly different than the modern powders used in modern cartridges. As well as knowing how to make the powder you would have to make primers and cast your own rounds after getting ahold of some processed lead. Then what happens when you run out of brass because of stress caused by firing them. Brass does stretch and crack over time. So many flaws. I’d rather horde and conserve ammo.
In the event of Nukes it’s all over anyway. In the event of economic collapse which is more than likely the experts say shelter in place and form neighbor watch patrols will get you the farthest but eventually the gangs and looters will come and kill you all or burn you out. People bugging out will be easy targets and when your hungry you can smell cooking 1 mile away and people will come. Game and fish will quickly be depleted within months. Gardens and food storage will be looted. People will start eating each other eventually. With the population as it is the most scenarios are pretty bleak. A few people in the Arctic may survive but they’re used to surviving the worst and its in their blood and heritage.
When all resources are depleted people will come hunting your stuff and burn you out and kill you. Game and fishing will be depleted within months, then the gangs and looters show up to steal your supplies and gardens.To a certain point they’ll all start eating each other. Once it gets to that point save a bullet for each family member and put them out of their misery.
Defeat yourself much? No need to be prey… no one will get anywhere near you if you have any tactical sense… make it cost too much to even learn where you might be.
Archery is a legit alternative. Especially on small game. Get a long bow.. Stock a few bow strings
