5 Stupidly Easy Tips to Cool Down Your Tent

Just thinking about the heat and the feeling of sweat dripping down our neck is enough to get our blood boiling. The key to this is the same as anything else:

Prepare! Just because you checked the weather beforehand doesn't mean that things don't change. How often has the weather man blasted on the news that it's gonna rain and it doesn't? People make mistakes. But prepare for the inevitable with these 5 Stupidly Easy Tips to Cool Down Your Tent:

1. Use a ground cover between the dirt and your tent.

Skeptical? Don't be. We polled our regular camping buddies on this EXACT tip. Out of 12 people, only 3 were utilizing a ground cover beneath their tent. Of these 3, their tents were noticeably cooler.

The ground cover creates a barrier between your tent and natures floor. By doing this, it helps reduce the amount of heat (and cold at night) that your tent floor absorbs.

Some may argue that carrying a ground cover is an extra supply they don't want to carry. And while we understand the concept of reducing unnecessary weight and carry on items on your trip, we fully support incorporating this into your gear. When rolled up, the ground cover takes up minimal space and it can be attached to your tent with some paracord for easy carrying. It also weighs next to nothing, so there's that too.

I live in the desert, there is no shade. Pitch tent right as sun goes down, works for me.

My tents were usually a couple of tarps tied to a limb about head high with no flaps on the end and usually put together later in the day

We can put a man on the moon, but we can’t put 5 tips on one page?

Some of my best memories are memories of my tenting days. I must say that I feel sort of smug because I practiced all of these tips over 50 years ago. I now have a nice travel trailer but I still enjoy the chance of being with my grand son trout fishing, camping in a tent. It is true that you can take the boy out of the tent, but you can never take the tent out of the man!
