The following fire starters are all pretty ingenious in their simplicity. Plus, they can definitely come in handy when you're bugging out or even get stranded in the woods and happen to have one o these supplies on your person. Out of these potential fir-making items perhaps you can think of even more ideas!

1. Duct Tape
Pull off a few feet of DT, crumple it up into a ball, and light it with an open flame.
2. Snack Chips

The greasier the better, snack chips are high in fat – which equals a high fuel value.
3. Chapstick
Any waxy lip balm offers great flammability.
4. Tampons
… made from packed cotton fibers. Pick them apart and you’ll have a great tinder source.

There is more to know about these items and how to make them work for you. Go to Outdoor Life and read more.

Some of these we mentioned in other articles. The fact they have come here shows how effective they are as fire accelerants. We particularly like the idea of snack chips. The problem being, of course, will you have anything left after a long hike or car drive to start a fire? Now that you know they make excellent fire starters, save a few just in case!
