There's a fair chance that a lot of people reading this post carry a pocket knife or some form of blade on them at least 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time is either when it's forgotten or they're in the shower. At any rate, it's highly encouraged that everybody carry a knife on them at all times, and not just for self-defense.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who refuse to carry a knife because they are worried about how others will perceive them. They don't want to “look paranoid” or look “dangerous.”

The problem with this thinking is that it is due to a wide belief, particularly in developed countries like ours, that all knives should be seen as weapons.

But that's not all knives are. In fact, it's pretty rare that a person carries a knife solely for use as a weapon. Go to the next page to learn all four major uses for a pocket knife.

I have never had to ask “can I borrow your knife?”. I have carried a pocket knife since I was a boy, and I don’t give a rats$#%&!@*what ANYONE thinks of it. But I can tell you this, I have been asked many, many times if I had a knife for someone else to use.
