15 Ways to Prep When a Person Has a Low Income or is Poor

We know that prepping can often be exhausting and strain our wallets. However, there are ways to get around a lot of the prepping pressure that many folks are unaware of. Check out these fifteen ways we can prep and profit with a lower income!

Become proficient with food preservation (e.g. canning)
Look for a local food pantry
Acquire survival & preparedness knowledge (Library, Internet)
Become proficient as a gardener (seeds are cheap)
Save your food jars/lids from spaghetti sauces, pickles, etc. for storage of ‘things’
Save old clothes to cut up for wash cloths, rags, etc.
Check local paper or Craigslist for free stuff
Buy a few extra cans of food each grocery store visit
Visit yard/estate sales, you might find ‘treasure’
Try to reduce as many monthly bills as you can
Drive around looking for trees filled with fruit, ask to pick some…
Eliminate ‘indulgent’ expenses (e.g. Starbucks, smoking, alcohol)
Cut your own hair (or your partners hair)
Borrow tools, etc. from neighbors where applicable (instead of buying)
Learn how to make a fire
Search for online ‘free’ prep books

Being in a lower income bracket does not mean we have to be left out in the cold when the SHTF. If you keep your eyes open and price things you may well be surprised at what you can find. No, it may not be champagne and pearls but, when prepping, it really isn’t about that anyway, is it?

And keep this in mind, our economically challenged friends, when the SHTF you will already have items, less expensive as they may be, stowed away while your more affluent brethren, who have not prepped, my be scrambling for their next meal!
