Even though she says you can start with a cheaper backpack we understand what she means. You can buy that expensive version and suddenly discover it is uncomfortable and not right for you. Experiment and see what you are ready for then invest! Sleeping bag: If you are laying out at night in the woods, get something that will keep you warm. AKA: Nothing flimsy. And shoes – that’s just a given. Something comfortable and hard-wearing!

With tips like this, hiking on a budget is not so bad!
